Yerf Dog 3203 Parts and Accessories  Yerf Dog 3203 & 3205 Go Karts Accessories

Shown below are a few of the accessories that I have purchased and installed on our Yerf Dog 3203 Go Kart.  Since the Yerf Dog 3205 is basically the same go kart (except the color is yellow), aftermarket accessories should work on either go kart.

Yerf Dog 3203 Grip Tape

Anti-Slip Grip Tape on Yerf Dog 3203 Go Kart

I purchased a Grip Tape set for our Yerf Dog 3203 go kart.  The painted sheet metal floor on the kart is very smooth and could be very slick if wet - or even if covered with a lot of dust.  Since I have little children that climb in and out of the go kart, I wanted to make sure it was safer.  It's basically like a heavy duty, flexible, adhesive backed sandpaper.  It REALLY improves the grip!  The Grip Tape set came with more pieces than what I installed, but I decided not to use all of it.  I liked the layout that I chose, so I didn't use the rest of it.  I did take some of the extra grip tape, and I cut a couple pieces to put on the face of the brake and gas pedals to give a better grip on those important controls - since they just come from the factory with smooth painted surfaces.

On a related note, I had a little trouble when I first tried to peel off the factory stickers that go on the floor.  The first sticker came off real slow with lots of pieces breaking off.  I had to peel it off in a lot of small sections.  On the second sticker, I had an idea that turned out to be helpful.  I took a hair dryer and warmed up the sticker, and then I tried to carefully peel it from different sides.  Doing it this way, I was able to get it all off in one big piece.  Warming it up with the hair dryer made the sticker more flexible and less prone to ripping - and much easier to remove!

Yerf Dog 3203 Tiny Tach

Tiny Tach Hourmeter/Tachometer

One of the other accessories that I added to our 3203 go kart was a tachometer.  For me, a tachometer was a must.  I do not like to do things like overriding the engine governor to allow it to rev up higher if I have no way to monitor engine RPM's.  I called up Tiny Tach and special ordered one with the correct wire length to allow me to mount it up front.  The Tiny Tach with extra wire length cost me around $40.  I just measured from the engine and followed along the frame the way I planned to route the wiring up to the front.  I added a little extra length on just to be sure, and I gave Tiny Tach this measurement.  Within a couple weeks or so, I received  my tach.  The Tiny Tach also has a Hourmeter which can be helpful for keeping track of maintenance items like oil changes.  I attached my Tiny Tach behind the steering wheel so that it's visible while driving.  I simply used a couple zip ties to secure it to the go kart frame as shown.  I did put a small piece of rubber material under the Tiny Tach to help isolate it a little from vibrations that are transmitted through the frame.

Yerf Dog 3203 Start-R-Up

Start-R-Up Go Kart Engine Starting System

Another useful accessory that has been added to our Yerf Dog 3203 go kart is the Start-R-Up engine starting system.  This is a very simple device, but it is very useful.  The Start-R-Up is simply a handle, a couple pulleys & mounts, and a piece of rope.  It is basically a pull start extension.  It allows the go kart to be pull started while sitting in the seat.  This is useful and can prevent a runaway go kart situation - which can occur if the torque converter malfunctions or the throttle sticks when trying to pull start the engine from behind.  I bought my Start R Up from the guy that invented it for $29.95.  Since I purchased it, the price has jumped to $59.95 which is a bit high in my opinion for what you are getting.

Yerf Dog 3203 Tube Foam

New Frame Tube Foam

I also decided to cover some more of the frame with foam tubing.  I just went down to the local Home Depot plumbing department and got some 3/4" pipe insulation foam tubing.  The stuff was real cheap (< $2 per 6ft piece).  I went with the 3/4" pipe insulation foam because the 1" pipe insulation ID was too big.  The size of the 1" pipe insulation is really around 1-1/8" ID.  It would have been too loose on the 1" frame tubing.  The 3/4" pipe insulation has a bigger ID than 3/4" (around 7/8" ID), and it is a tight fit on the kart tubing.  It seems to work just fine.  The insulation came with self adhesive strips along the split of the foam tube to seal the tube after installation.  I used zip ties to secure it better to the frame tubes.  We ususally wear helmets when driving the go kart, but I wanted more of the tubes covered as an extra precaution.  Sometimes on real rough terrain, my helmet has hit the top brush guard tubing so the extra foam should help protect our helmets (and heads) from hard impacts like this.
