Merkur Logo  ATR Wastegate Mod

The ATR downpipe is nice and the machining of their turbo wastegate is excellent.  However the design of the ATR wastegate is a bit suspect.  I have communicated with 2-3 people who have had boost control problem with this WG.  Andrew V. ( http://members.aol.com/projectsvo/index.html ) told me of a fix he came up with that allowed the wastegate to work as one expects.

ATR has the valve of the wastegate seat flat against the mounting flange on the down pipe. These pictures show how I machined a seat insert for the valve to seal against.
I then machined a face on the seat and lapped it to the insert.   It was necessary to machine a counterbore in the housing that the seat could press into.

If I had it to do all over again I would buy the ATR down pipe (I bought it through Martin Musial who is a distributor for various go-fast goodies), but use a TiAL waste gate. The TiAL turbo wastegate is a direct bolt on to the ATR down pipe and works without modifications.   Thanks for the tip Andrew!
